Choir
John and Jeanie Kilpatrick, past directors of Agua Viva, organized two Agua Viva choir tours, one in October 1994 and the other in October 1996. In October 2001, Fred Gebhardt, director, organized a choir tour that toured in the United States. Kirk and Michelle Lightfield have directed and brought choir tours to selected regions of the United States since 2003. The "Worship Tours", as they have come to be known, are very well received by American audiences.
Worship Tours enable sponsors and contributors the opportunity to visit with some of the children of Agua Viva in person. They are also a means to provide new support and awareness of the ministry of Agua Viva by presenting the work that the Lord is doing through the home for the children and widows of Guatemala. The performances incorporate traditional and contemporary worship songs in Spanish and English, choreography, and indigenous Mayan costumes. They demonstrate that, despite cultural differences, there is one God worthy of our praise. The children chosen to participate in the Worship Tour have shown their desire to live their lives for Christ and have been good role models for the other children at Agua Viva. The tours generally last six to eight weeks, during which time the choir members are exposed to American culture, not only on the road, but also in the homes of families that graciously welcome them to stay for a few days at each stop along the way. If your church or organization wishes to schedule a performance, or if you wish to be a host family for several members of the choir when they are in your area, please see below for information about the upcoming tour. Upcoming choir tours with contact information will be announced in the monthly newsletters. |
