A SCHOLARSHIP STORY

Glenda Lucia | 8th Grade Scholarship Recipient

Glenda and her four siblings live with their single mother in a small corrugated metal home. Glenda’s mother and grandparents before her have always worked in farming and never had much time for school. Her mother’s main goal is to make sure her children get a good education and have a future and the opportunity to be whatever they want to be. The family has a monthly income of about $160 a month and invests a good portion of that towards schooling for all the children. They eat mostly rice and beans and when there is enough money get to have chicken for Sunday dinners. Glenda is so thankful for her scholarship because it means she can attend such a high quality school that will help her get into high school one day. Glenda walks 20 minutes to school every day and works really hard to make the most of the opportunity she has to study. She loves language arts and hopes to be a teacher one day.

FAQ

How does the program work?

Scholarship sponsors receive an annual photo and info sheet for their student. They will also receive a letter once a year from their student to get to know them a little bit more. Sponsors are also welcome to write to their sponsor child to encourage them in their studies and build a relationship with them.

Can I send money or gifts?

No. Our scholarship program is set up solely to provide for the educational needs of the children in our community. We want to keep the program focused on providing for the students tuitions.

Who can I contact with questions about the scholarship program?

If you have any questions about the scholarship program you can contact our scholarship coordinator at aguavivascholarships@gmail.com.

What does my scholarship cover?

The budget to educate our students works out to about one dollar per day per student, an excellent investment in the future of Guatemala. Tuition covers just a fraction of this cost, so we must raise the necessary funds to operate the school. The Scholarship Program help us supplement tuitions so that we can provide a quality christian education to the children from our community. Your monthly donation helps provide for:

  • A quality education from a school know for its academic excellence.Biblically-based teaching and weekly Bible classes on Christian living, doctrine, church attendance, and life skills training.
  • Access to classes and facilities not available in many schools such as: chemistry lab, computer class, English class, art, music and much more.
  • Teachers and staff who are dedicated to providing a christian education to their students.
  • Maintenance and expansion of safe and clean facilities.
  • Education costs for the children of the Agua Viva Home are covered by the home’s Sponsorship Program.
